DOS RIOS MOTHER’S GUESTHOUSE

Pagosa Springs, CO

MOTHERS GUESTHOUSE. This guest house of 1,800 SF is located 600 feet from the main ranch house on a bluff with great ranch and distant forest views. The house honors the owner’s mother who was an accomplished artist and philanthropist. The contemporary contextual design acknowledges the Indian ruins prevalent in the region. The great room, bedroom and studio plan has great views and daylighting walls, plus numerous “gallery” options for showing her personal art. This house uses local woods and steel railroad “tracks” used as roof and ceiling rafters in the art passage, kitchen and bathroom areas.

“Doug designed this house for my mother intending it to be a tribute to her memory, and he elevated it to become a testament to her artful life and her art”
