The client purchased a 40 year old Spanish style spec house in La Quinta and wanted to reinvent it into a minimalist desert modern weekend and entertainment getaway.
The entire house was stripped and the pool & landscaping were completely removed. All the small interior rooms were removed and opened up to large entertainment spaces with wide openings to the yard. The added passive ventilation means that very little energy is used on thermal comfort in the months that it is in use.
The interior design concept is minimalist to be a backdrop for art and the rock formations in the back yard. A black Shou Sugi Ban Fireplace wall hides multimedia equipment behind sliding doors.
Mature trees surround the minimalist pool, jacuzzi and entertainment yard with outdoor “fire wall” lounge area, a discrete outdoor bar, and BBQ. A steel trellis canopy structure hides the rear house roof, provides much needed sun relief, and has an integrated misting system.
